Co-founders Ed and Will came to Oddkid at an inflection point in their business. Despite still being a young start-up, Orbital Witness was already loved and trusted by lawyers at top tier law firms around the UK. The product – a first-to-market solution for property due diligence – was performing well; their growing team were close-knit and positive about the future; and they had raised seed funding from leading industry brands and prominent VC's, including LocalGlobe. This was the moment to capitalise on their success and momentum so far and to step into the “grown up” business they were fast becoming.

Their brief to Oddkid was about strengthening the Orbital Witness brand strategy ahead of a re-brand, new website and big recruitment push. They also wanted to lay the foundations for a pioneering new product they were developing that would have universal appeal and application. As first-time founders, and not having been through a branding process before, Ed and Will understandably sought a strategic partner who could be clear about every step, and on-hand for discussions and debate throughout the journey. They also wanted to bring their team along for the ride, so we built in regular presentations and Q&A’s during company all-hands.

In addition to the fundamental strategy deliverables (Vision, Mission, Values, and so on), we worked in close collaboration with brand designer Mike Reid from the get go. This partnership meant that the new brand identity was born out of a deep understanding of the needs and nuances of the brand – leading to an easy handover into the Creative phase.

Underpinned by the idea of ‘Spirited Sophistication’, the design language was born from the benefits of the product itself. Just as Orbital Witness is both radically new and yet totally straight-forward, so the visual and verbal identity is also quirky, minimal and considered.

Beyond the strategic phase, Oddkid also translated the new positioning into key messaging and copy for the website and employee handbook. It was incredibly rewarding to see the thinking behind the brand emerge on the other side in terms of how the business looks, behaves and speaks.

Today, Orbital Witness stands out in all the right ways – embodying Spirited Sophistication in all it does, and looking towards a bright future filled with growth, change and inspiration.
